Meet the Honorees: Kelley Dick
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA.
Name a hobby or your favorite sport.
I have a lot of hobbies. Probably too many! But my favorite new hobby is learning how to barbecue – which goes hand-in-hand with watching my favorite sports: football and baseball.
Name someone that has been influential in your life.
My parents have both been very influential in my life. They’ve always encouraged me to follow my dreams and have taught me important lessons in humility and service. Other than the usual suspects, though, my two younger brothers have also been surprisingly good influences in my life. Just don’t tell them I said that…
What does being a Great Futures Gala Honoree mean to you?
Being an honoree gives me the opportunity to give back to a great organization. I’ve always been a huge fan of the work that the Boys & Girls Club does in our community schools, and I’m very excited to get in at the ground floor and help support and raise awareness for their mission.
Why do you feel it’s important to give back?
I’ve been taught from a young age that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” I feel very fortunate to have been blessed with a wonderful family, a great education, the support of many close friends, and a lot of opportunity. I know there are others in our community who may have been less fortunate than I, and I think it’s important to lift up those around us. After all, community is about togetherness.
What did you want to be growing up?
An engineer. Until I got to physics. Then I just wanted to do anything other than physics – so I settled on law.
